Our Committee

Our Committee

Yarrunga Community Centre is a non-profit organisation with a Committee of Governance, who meet once a month. We are always keen for new people to join our Committee and give us the value of their personal and professional skills - it doesn't take a huge input of time, and all our committee members agree that they gain much in return.  If you would like to find out more about joining our Committee please contact the Centre.

Chairperson - Peter Feeney

In my work with the Centre I have met an amazing group of people, and have experienced a range of activities I had no idea existed. Being able to give something back to my local community fills me with gratitude and gives me purpose and meaning. I joined the Yarrunga Committee of Governance in 2018 after being a long-user of the facilities. I wanted to contribute to the Centre and felt my experience in governance and organising committees could be of assistance. My input is only around two hours a week, mostly helping with advice and making governance decisions.

Secretary - Suzanne Tobin

I have been involved with the Yarrunga Committee of Governance since 2008.  It is enjoyable and rewarding as I work with a group of enthusiastic people who are also committed to a not-for-profit organisation which serves the community in so many ways. The commitment of time is very little, only about 5-6 hours a month. Having previously worked in business administration and as a teacher, I felt I had skills which could be of value to the work of the committee. Among my duties is preparing the agenda for the committee meetings; recording and distributing the minutes of the meetings; maintaining the Member's Register; and, with the other committee members, reviewing and updating policies and procedures; attending to any business arising and sometimes representing the Centre.

Treasurer - Garth Whitchurch

I really enjoy being involved with the Centre and know that my contributions are really appreciated and valued, not just for the Centre but for the community it serves. At the same time I have been able to meet our local Councillor and Government members as well as like-minded individuals to broaden my contacts and knowledge. With a background in banking and working with other organisations and Foundations, I became Treasurer for Yarrunga in 2018. I put in about 4-5 hours a month which includes our monthly meetings - really simple compared with past duties as a volunteer.

Deputy Chair - Chris Jones

Community is at the heart of everything we live for. I have been a member of the YCC committee since April 2022 and have been inspired by the Centre’s vision to foster a safe community space that supports connection and belonging. I enjoy interacting with different members of the community and providing any assistance that benefits the people of our diverse community. I am a father of two magnificent primary school age kids and work in the IT industry. I have been involved in other community organisations including time as Secretary of the Eastern Football League Umpires Association. My time with the YCC committee includes reviewing policies and ensuring good governance for the Centre to thrive.

Assistant Treasurer - Marian Schumejko

Having recently retired and relocated from Wodonga to Melbourne, I wanted to get involved in local community programs and projects. I started attending an exercise class at the Yarrunga Community Centre in February 2022 and have really enjoyed the friendly and supportive atmosphere at the Centre. When I saw there was a vacancy on the Committee of Governance, I thought this was an opportunity to get involved and contribute using my knowledge and experience gained working within local and state government financial administration.
